Once you load them to VLC on your computer in iTunes, sync your iPhone. Then open vlc on your iPhone and pick the movie you just loaded. Then once the movie is loaded, in the bottom left side is the subtitles icon (looks like Messages icon). Tap on it and pick the subtitles SRT file with the same name as movie is named and they will appear.
This app is available only on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

The recent update needs fixing
iPhone X, iOS 13
The app will go back to light mode if playing media in the background and then maximizing. The dark mode setting will simply turn itself off. I suspect it’s somehow related to the iOS dark mode feature as it doesn’t happen on iPad 2018, iOS 12.4.1.
Please, bring back the default aspect ratio (AR) zoom as it was before - fill the screen horizontally but not vertically, leaving two thin black bars at the top and bottom (for movies with 2.35:1 cinemascope AR). Yes, there’s still the notch on one side, but it looked better than playing movies inside a black rectangle frame (default AR mode as it is right now) or cropping to fill the screen (losing more of the image).
Please bring back more options to better sort out the media files like renaming and moving files.

Developer Response,
Thanks for your detailed feedback! Which device do you experience these zooming problems on? iPad or iPhone? Which one precisely? For the album management experience, we will improve that in subsequent releases.
hoovado
It is still quite buggy. App sometimes crashes during the start (when list of videos is populated). Plus there are still minor sound problems - video doesn't play any sound until pressed pause and then play again.
